melthebell
Statistics and estimated, always good keywords to use when trying to justify an increase on fares to keep the profit margins up. indeed, its ALWAYS guesswork at excusing putting prices up whether its transport, utilities, piracy, shoplifting
Skirmisher
My baldies. So lets get things into perspective here, they were going to centertainment but had not got there yet and were accused of avoiding fares by an inspector ? They then gladly paid £20 for their fare when they had not reached their destination ? Call me stupid and paint my bum blue but if they had not reached their destination then how could they be avoiding the fare when the inspector could have beckoned the conductor and issued them with tickets for their journey for a couple of quid... How does this impact on the future of the trams when they paid £20 for a fare that would have amounted to about a tenth of that ? Russberg
Yoiu're required to pay the first time a conductor approaches. If you're spotted on his third pass, or by an inspector after you already had a chance to pay and did not, then you are guilty of avoiding the fare. Indeed. That is what appeared to have happened earlier this evening. The inspector had observed the conductor passing the "ladies" on several occasions asking for people to pay for tickets. When the "ladies" ignored it the inspector stepped in. Rightly so!

Rightly so! rightly so, so whats yer problem? they tried it on, failed, got penalised, the system did its job?
HeadingNorth
rightly so, so whats yer problem? Presumably, his complaint is that people are small-minded enough to try it on in the first place.

Twiglet
Not much of their revenue comes from fares. They get a lot of government subsidy, and even get CAP payments for 'farming'. I thought their subsidy ended when Stagecoach took over?
HeadingNorth
I thought their subsidy ended when Stagecoach took over? Either the official documents will show there is a subsidy and chem1st will believe them; or, they will show no subsidy and he will claim it's a cover-up. foxydebs
Be cheaper to fire all the conductors and fund it through local taxation, we already paying majority of cost through taxes, and then pay for conductors and fares on top. The conductors can then work in another industry and add to total production. With the unemployment rate like it is, where do you expect people to find jobs if you make them redundant, this will push the unemployment rate up and also the amount of people claiming benefits. fruitisbad
Presumably, his complaint is that people are small-minded enough to try it on in the first place. but they get caught and pay more than the usual fair. what is the arguement?
