HeadingNorth
Is this in the proper olympics? as that was what I was reffering to Yes, the proper Olympics. He's in the South African 4*400 relay squad.
HeadingNorth
No one who competes in the special olympics should get a penny in dla. No one who is fit enough to compete on that level can then turn round and say they are too disabled to work. DLA is payable to people who are in work, so that's a fairly pointless argument to make. Cheers HN for pointing this out to yet another misinformed person, DLA is to help people with disabilities either at home or such to improve their quality of life. They can be either in work or not, people are too quick to have a pop at the disabled & have no idea what they have to contend with, & in that I include their marvelous carers & families. The DLA is there to help support those with disabilities to attempt to lead as normal a life as possible. Are you banning parents from competing too because they get child benefit? Bottom line is if they can compete in the olympics they deserve squat. To claim anything would be an affront to the system and an insult to those genuinely in need. By the way i love the way you try to hammer your point home by that outrageous generisation. You know the one where you say "marvelous carers" ? So right on and pc of you
HeadingNorth
And those who arent in work ... Thus proving my point, that your argument about DLA being related to ability to work is a pointless one!
Sarah Kane
Thus proving my point, that your argument about DLA being related to ability to work is a pointless one! No it isnt. Getting free money from us taxpayers just because you happen to have a deformity or disability yet at the same time competing in an event like the olympics is obscene and an insult to every honest tax payer. It should be stopped and these people should be made to work instead of getting handouts.
juniee
to Sarah Kane dla is given regardless whether or not a person works it is used for the extra costs involved in being disabled ie wheelchairs, gadgets, and other things that able bodied people have no need for you are getting mixed up with incapacity benefit also please think on it could be you tomorrow who knows when illness strikes i would not wish harm on anyone but as the lottery slogan states it could be you and as regards as handouts you do not know how long some people have worked and some illnesses are caused through work

It should be stopped and these people should be made to work instead of getting handouts. Some of them - perhaps many of them - will already be in work. That's irrelevant to whether or not they qualify for DLA, which is payable to anyone who has living costs over and above the average person because of their disabilities. Even retired millionaires can claim it.
