Free Enigma Machine talk (Second World War codebreaking)

High Storrs

Recommended Posts

The Enigma Project is the brainchild of science writer and broadcaster Simon Singh, who owns a 1936 genuine Enigma machine. It has been touring UK schools for the last ten years, delivering engaging workshops and talks to get youngsters interested in history, maths and science.

Dr James Grime, from the University of Cambridge’s Millenium Mathematics Project, will discuss how a group of mathematicians managed to crack the code used to transmit German intelligence during World War II. There will be an opportunity to watch the Enigma machine in action and to ask any questions you may have.

The talk will take place on Wednesday 21st March from 6.30 pm at High Storrs School (High Storrs Road, S11). It is free and is open to members of the general public, as well as staff and students. If you would like to attend, please contact Eva Oliver at the school on 0114 2670000.
