The council/police filming on the street is one thing, but your neighbours spying on you is a different thing entirely. Makes no difference if you have children in your garden, they can film all your comings and goings. Their cameras can be pointed directly at your windows and you can't do a thing about it.

The police and council won't do anything about it.

This is serious!:o

You want to be able to stop people from pointing their CCTV on public streets too?

I cant see that happening. What about people who park their cars on the road outside their house and need CCTV to cover it?

They wont be able to help the fact its pointing at a public street but i doubt very much they are invading anyones privacy. Just protecting whats theirs.

I agree with not being allowed to point it directly into peoples propery though.

I think you need to change your petition from...

I consider this a gross infringement of ALL our Human Rights.

To...

I consider this an infringement of my right to privacy under article 8 of the European Convention on Human rights

... that is unless your purpose is just to get laughed at.

It may also be beneficial if you take the time out to find out what the law actually states regarding the issue.

Having read some of those links it appears that what the OP wants to be made illegal already is?

"With private property such as a neighbour what you can't do is point a camera straight into their garden to film their activities,"

Indeed, hence my closing statement.

I have no problem with people pointing cameras into the street in front of their homes to protect their property, their vehicle or caravan for example. My problem is when cameras are pointed at someone's else's property just because their vehicle is in front of it.

Thanks for your links, barleycorn. I have read most of this stuff before and on the face of it you can force them to move the cameras and protect yourself. Great! The problem is when you actually go and get legal advice (which I did) and try to do something about it, you can't - all this stuff is ambiguous. You aren't even protected under harassment laws, which is what it amounts to.

What exactly is the "problem" you have? How do you feel you are being harassed?

CCTV is a pretty grainy medium. It's not like in CSI where you can "zoom in and enhance" and see right into your house.

I'm not having a go, just trying to get more facts on the situation.

Alchresearch is right. Why not go have a chat with your neighbour and ask to see what it is the camera sees?

Their cameras can be pointed directly at your windows and you can't do a thing about it.

curtains? nets?

If you can see through the window with the naked eye anyway, I don't see why a camera should be a problem.

You want people to protect their privacy by putting their name and address on a petition that will be sent to the government, thus ensuring that anyone who signs the petition will be marked down as a troublemaker and subject to even more scrutiny? :loopy:
