mj.scuba
Take it with a pinch of salt (not too much, will give you high blood pressure).
JFKvsNixon
Headline in the Daily Express, Daily consumption of white rice leads to Type 2 diabetes. Where do these so called scientists get their ideas from?? You really need to read you the report before going off on an embracing rant! Type 2 diabetes is six times more common on S E Asian communities and three times ore common in African and Afro-Caribbean communities. White rice has high GI values, and a high GI diet is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. What's not to understand?
Harleyman
White rice is full of carbs which turn to sugar in the blood but consumig foods high in sugar does not cause type 2 diabetes. It only affects those who are already diabetic. Type 2 is often caused by the body's inability to store sugar and instead it floods into the bloodstream. Unlike type 1 the pancreas in type 2 is often capable of producung a normal amount of insulin. It's the systems inability to store the sugar that's the problem

JFKvsNixon
So it's nothing to do with rice, any carbohydrate will have the same effect?? Its to do with food that has a high GI index, and white rice has a high GI index. More here if you're interested.
Harleyman
So it's nothing to do with rice, any carbohydrate will have the same effect?? I already know that Type 2 is predominant among overweight people, black people and American native-Indians. It's come as a surprise that Asians are also prone to it. Eating food high in carbs and sugar content will not cause diabetes 2, only if that person is genetically predisposed to it in the first place. Any food high carbs is not good for diabetics as the carbs turn to sugar and if there is insuffient insulin to counteract it or the body's mechanism cannot store it then that sugar is loose in the bood which means that it's like thick mud flowing through a pipe and it places a strain on the filtration system of the kidneys. Needless to say not good for the body
