DWP & Home Office workers in Sheffield, prepare to take you pay cuts

Recommended Posts

House prices will come down Trust me. It's silly to think they never will and the idea they could only ever head upwards is one of the causes of the tripe we're in now.

I know a few people on £50k+. In Sheffield. In public sector jobs or quangos. I don't think many of them set much of an example.

I also know a lot of public sector workers on a lot less than £50k. My wife is one.

Having major government departments here is generally a good thing for the city but the wages of the many senior staff in those departments are ridiculously high compared to local wages. And it ain't the senior staff that have taken the brunt of redundancies - from what I can gather talking to people I know they culled the civil service junior ranks and saved themselves. They need to be brought into line with local conditions.

House prices will never fall.

This country is jammed to the gills, property is at a premium.

My house is band A, that is less than £40,000, as it was 20 years ago.

But no house in this area has gone for less than £120,000 in the last 10 years.

We cannot go on like this, there are just too many of us.

I was born in 1951, the population was 40 million.

61 years later it is approaching 70 million.

75% increase in 60 years, we dont stand a chance at this rate.

The above payscale (AFC Band 5) applies to staff nurses, ODPs, paramedics & EMTs. Its not a massive salary given the responsibilities. How do they expect to grade these against the private sector

Every job in a hospital, from cleaner to site general manager, is a specialist role.

Comparison cannot be made to general industry really.

Everywhere total health and safety has to be taken into account, we dare not let standards slip for one moment.

Unless you have worked in this environment you cannot believe the dedication of the staff, of all grades.

That is why Camerons insults cause so much heartfelt discord that good decent people feel as if they need to strike, as many did recently.

If they don't fall. We're toast. Even more than we are now.

People need to first of all disconnect from the idea that high house prices is a good and desirable thing to have.

That's the problem. Every time house prices go up it's reported on the news as a good news story. Whenever they stagnate or go down it's reported as some sort of economic disaster.

What drives this is people buying property as investments, rather than buying a house in order to live in it.

The only way house prices can fall, is if people stop wanting to buy them.

How can that happen, for my aformentioned reasons?

Amazing that when questions are asked about bankers salaries or dividend payments to heads of private companies the excuse we always hear is that you have to pay millions in salaries in order to get the best people.

Yet the opposite seems to be the case with public servants. A race to see who can pay the least.

All our money ultimately goes to the Banks.

It has to, that is how our society is arranged.

They then just cream off what they want for themselves, and throw the crumbs to the peasants.

It is a vile set up, run by vile people.

But there we are.

What can we do about it, at our level?

We have not had a decent person, who was even remotely a working man, as PM since Harold Wilson.

I understand what you are saying but I think it's idealistic to think that housing is going to ever come down in price. I just don't think that will happen. The fact is food, petrol, gas, electricity, water has all gone up in price and will keep going up. If people don't get pay rises for years and years they literally won't be able to live anymore.

Job done then

How can it happen? Just a 3% rise in the base interest rate will finish off most of the idiots who thought the prices could only ever go up.

Maybe when the interest only deals expire and have to get rolled over into more expensive repayment deals?

Maybe as unemployment continues to rise and job security falls?

Prices will fall, at least in relative terms. They have to.

But we all have to have somewhere to rest our bones.

There are no pay increases in the offing under this joke gang we have pretending to be a government, so I cannot see how ready money will catch up with house prices.

We are going to be stuck in this ridiculous situation for some time I think.

In fact I think it will get worse.

No one can sell, because no one can afford to buy.

A tipping point must come, but when?
