18.03.12 - FDL Totley 1-3 Sheffield Forum

Recommended Posts

Forum managed to grab all 3 points today depsite an under par performance. Few more changes to the side today as Ryan Lynch was not available and Liam Wales was still recovering from an injury picked up midweek. Nathan Jenkins returned to the side as did Tom Gray and Andy Coates.

Forum started slowly against Totley and struggled to get their game together early on. Totley applied pressure but no real end product. Forum did eventually get into the game and Kyle Dowling was thwarted in a one-on-one, Joe Neate had 2 shots blocked and Daniel Sheedy headed just wide.

Injury problems again followed Forum, Andy Coates having to be removed early on with a leg problem, Philip Gill coming on to replace him.

Sheffield Forum did take the lead, Ashley Matthews hitting a 20 yard free kick low past the wall and keeper. A deserved goal for the centre back after he had earlier made an excellent challenge on a Totley forward inside the area to block a shot.

Forum finished the half strongly, Joe Appleby having a couple of pot-shots and many corners won, just not taken advantage of.

Half time: FDL Totley 0-1 Sheffield Forum

Half time brought another change, Neate having to be replaced after his groin injury returned. Tom Hunter replaced him as Forum shuffled around again. Totley came out fighting in the 2nd half as they looked to equalise, Adam Smith making 2 good saves and Hunter clearing off the line.

Totley did equalise though, poor marking and closing down allowed Totley into the area before pulling the ball back to an unmarked player who smashed the ball home bringing them back level.

Totley grew in confidence and continued pushing well as the game went more end to end, Totley more prepared to take the shot than Forum.

However, it was Sheffield Forum that took the lead, about 20minutes from time, corner swung in by Sheedy was met at the front post where 3 players were running in, Kyle Dowling the one that got on the end of it. A deserved goal for all the work he had done throughout the game.

Forum tightened up a little as Totley rattled the cross bar. Forum added a 3rd in added time, classic counter attack as the ball broke, a great ball was played to Philip Gill who ran in on goal hoping to score his first this season. He chipped the ball over the keeper, the defender failed to get to the ball as it rolled goalwards and Daniel Sheedy got the defining touch just before it went over the goal line. Easy one he will score all season!

Forum then just sat and held on to the lead as the rest of the game was played out.

Full time: FDL Totley 1-3 Sheffield Forum

Team: Smith, Appleby (Proctor), Neate (Hunter), Jenkins, Dowling, Middlebrook, Matthews, Sheedy, Gray, Baugh, Coates (Gill)

Overall it was a good game but disappointment in the performance from Sheffield Forum. Hopefully this will be rectified next week against Noahs Ark. Full credit to Totley who kept battling and played some good football at times, on another day we would have lost and we have played hell of a lot better than that and still lost. 3 games remaining and we play Totley as our last home game on 8th April. Before that we have Noahs Ark at Frechville PF and Sheffield Titans at Coleridge Road.
