Roads to be privatised.

Recommended Posts

To call Cameron a Clown would be insulting to Clowns IMO!:loopy:

The man is a complete numpty! And this proves it IMO.

Why Rich? What points do you disagree with? And bear in mind you have to read the entire proposal and not just a DM or DE headline that says "ALL ROADS TO BE TOLL ROADS"

The roads are in a serious state of decay and need massive investment to improve them, since privatisation of the utility companies my service has been constant and reliable with no power cuts, maybe private roads would be in much better condition and make for a better driving experience and less wear and tear to our cars.

The state of Sheffield's roads surely can't get worse than they are now?

So who pays for it all then ? The roads are a state and need investment. I take the point that although Cameron said no tolls on existing roads but those goal posts can be moved, but as a country we havent got enough money. We have too much draining it and too many people in general. Arguably that statement could be used to describe the west in general, hence Cameron pimping our roads out to the Chinese and Arabs. What other options are there ?

We already pay over £40 billion pa through road tax and fuel tax. Neither are ring fenced, and neither are actually spent on the roads.

How about we improve them ourselves.

But that helps pay for hospitals and benefits etc. It all goes in the same pot doesn't it ??

Does this happen with the M6 toll road?

Cameron and Co. keep mentioning the M6 Toll road as an example of how it could / would work. It was built by private finance, had to be closed again within days of opening because the surface was breaking up, and so far is £50 million in the red.

Our power supplies are owned by the Germans, French and Spanish; so are our water supplies; so are our railways; now Cameron and Osborne want the Chinese to buy our transport infrastructure. It's been the same since Maggie, everything's for sale.

It is the same pot and at present we have complete control over how we spend it. What Cameron is suggesting is a big change - the first step in losing control over how the spend is distributed. Ouch!

It seems mental to refuse to kow-tow to Europe one month then sell our hides to China the next.

There are of course other options but this is a typical 'no other option' Tory sell. Only an idiot wouldn't question it.
