HeadingNorth
So he loses money by raising the threshold but where is The Boy Blunder going to offset the shortfall? Partly, at least, by clobbering rich people who are trying to avoid stamp duty.
Mecky
Does the income tax threshold go up next month? Wait for the Budget [Wednesday]. Anything already planned/proposed can/might be undone there and then. But the squeeze has been on for nearly two months now. The squeeze is the old trick of greedy businesses slapping money on goods before the budget and bung the prices up further still in reaction to the budget. andyofborg
Why should married couples get an allowance? indeed, the old saying "two can live as cheaply as one" suggests that couples should be paying more tax than single people
Isabelle
I need to ring the HMRC, check if I get a new tax code. I underpaid in previous years by mistake, and as a result my tax code is lower. If it stays the same next year I wil be paying even more tax so I have to make sure.

Mr Soft
You may even be able to pay for a small portion of the increased costs of running a car with the extra money.Or, at least some of the extra cost of fuel petrol and diesel since the scum came to power. Mecky
Partly, at least, by clobbering rich people who are trying to avoid stamp duty. But he won't do that because it might cost the tories votes. It's highly probable that the 50% tax bracket will be despatched into history too.
