Shef_Fitness
With the ever increasing cost of entertaining the children during the school holidays, we are introducing cheaper activities that parents and children can do side by side. Here they are…… ACTIVITY 1 - Dam Flask to Low Bradfield (this walk is buggy friendly) An easy walk on very easy terrain, this walk is suitable for parents pushing buggies. Although on easy footpaths, very small children (under 5s) may get tired due to distance. 1) Meet at Dam Flask (the junction of Loxley Road and New Road) 2) We take the easy path along that runs next to Dam Flask (around 1 mile) 3) We emerge on Lamb Hill (Lamb Hill is a road) 4) We continue to Low Bradfield and onto the village green At this point, provided there is space on the green and if the children wish to take part, we can organise games such as bulldog, races, even an egg and spoon race. If parents wish to play games as well, we can organise a game of rounders. Parents can of course sit on the village green and chat among themselves if they wish. There is also a playground with swings + slides if children wish to use that. 5) After our time in the park we then begin the return to the start. 6) Following the same path back, after an hour we will return back to our cars DATE – 5th April and 6th April COST – £4 per person, or £10 a family START – 10.30am (this can be revised if people think this is too late) DISTANCE – the walk is around 2.5 miles; this doesn’t take into account the distance the children will be running if we play games DURATION – The walk (2.5 miles) will take 2.5 hours to complete, however with the games, the full duration of the day could be 3.5 to 4 hours. ACTIVITY 2 - REDMIRES RESERVIOR TO STANAGE EDGE. 1) Meet at Redmires Reservoir 2) We walk past the woods, and onto Stanage Edge 3) We stop at the Edge to have a break + picnic (458 meters high) 4) Head towards Stanage Lodge 5) Walk through the woods 6) Walk around the Reservoir (where we get fantastic views over Sheffield) 7) Back to the start IMPORTANT – this particular walk is not suitable for buggies, and very small children may find it tricky to walk on (under 5 year olds. DISTANCE – 4 miles (give or take 1/2 a mile) DURATION – 3 to 4 hours DATES – 2nd April and 4th April START TIME – 11am COST – £4 per person, or £10 for a family
