25.03.12 - Noahs Ark 1-3 Sheffield Forum

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum produced an excellent footballing display and got their reward with a 3-1 win in Frechville. Forum made 2 changes to the side as Matthew Corker came in for Nathan Jenkins whilst Andy Coates covered right back in place of Joe Appleby. Liam Wales returned from injury and took his place on the left wing.

Forum started brightly, trying to play football from the off. It was difficult at first as the players adjusted to the pitch condition but the passes started flowing and had Noahs Ark pegged back. Ark were forced to play the ball long.

Kyle Dowling was played through on goal twice but could not find the net, hitting at the keeper both times. Forum continued to apply pressure as Shane Middlebrook attacked down the right hand side before sending a perfect cross to the back post finding Liam Wales who headed wide.

A similar chance fell for Daniel Sheedy who this time headed over the bar from close range. Forum had many shots blocked and always looked like scoring.

Ark had a period of pressure when they won a few corners but none of them caused any real concern. Ark managed to get a couple of shots in, both straight over the bar from range.

Forum meanwhile, passed and attacked well across the pitch but were caught out after an attack was broken up. Ark defence got the ball and played it long into Forums half where a forward was waiting. Despite appeals for a clear offside, play was allowed to continue as the referee was still with the Forum attack. The ball was played across the area for Ark forward to finish and give them the lead against the run of play.

The equaliser was chased but never found in the first half, Dowling unable to convert a chance and then he later crossed for Shane Middlebrook who headed inches wide. Matthews Corker also had a shot go inches over the bar from range while Liam Wales also struck at the keeper. It looked like a goal was never going to come for Sheffield Forum.

HT: Noahs Ark 1-3 Sheffield Forum

Half time Forum players came in stunned that they were a goal down and went straight out to put this right. Forum kicked off and went straight into their passing game, cleverly moving the play around which finished in a shot being fired at the keeper.

Forum pushed hard as keeper Adam Smith was only called into action to collected long balls that ran through to him.

At long last an equaliser came which was long overdue. A Noahs Ark corner was defended well and the ball broke to Liam Wales just outside his own area. He picked up the ball, ran past one player, then another and broke into the Ark area going past another before playing the ball across to Kyle Dowling who took a touch before slotting past the keeper. The goal was least Forum deserved as they now looked to go on and win the game.

Confidence grew as Ark still failed to test the Smith in Forum goal whilst Ark keeper was kept busy throughout. Forum finally took the lead, superb switch of play from left to right by Wales into Middlebrook who knocked down for Kyle Dowling who past 1 and shot low to the keepers right.

The hunt for goals continued, Ashley Matthews firing a free kicked just wide whilst Matthew Corker fired another free kick over the bar. Daniel Sheedy was instrumental in Forums attacking play as he and Wales worked well together as did the rest of the team. Sheedy played a great ball in to Tom Gray who's header was saved.

A deserved 3rd was scored towards the end of the game as Shane Middlebrook followed up his own attempt after the keeper made the save leaving him with a header into an empty goal.

Ark best chance in the 2nd half was a through ball that was smothered by Smith. It was a very impressive performance from Sheffield Forum, playing the kind of football we have been after for a while and on another day we would have finished up with a scoreline in double figures.

FT: Noahs Ark 1-3 Sheffield Forum

Team: Smith, Neate, Corker, Wales, Matthews, Sheedy (Proctor), Gray (Gill), Baugh, Coates, Middlebrook, Dowling.

Sheffield Forum players were very proud of the win today and dedicated it to Scottf who broke his leg in the home fixture against these in November.

Forum are pushing for a promotion place this season and teams above us dropped points today, we play Sheffield Titans next week and can leap frog them if we take the 3 points. We have also learnt today that we will face Smithywood again on Bradway Rec as they were found to have fielded an ineligible player against us at the start of the month. The date for this is yet to be confirmed. Keep playing as we are and we will finish strongly this season. UTF!

Sounds like a cracking match mate,if memory serves me correctly that's two good wins over Noahs, never mind all this second place rubbish with United and Wednesday, this is where the real action is:hihi::hihi:

Keep it up lads........brilliant result.

I think you are thinking of back end of last season when we played them on the same pitch. We came away 12-3 winners that day, yesterday could have certainly ended up 12-1 had we put away our chances. We drew with them though earlier this season.

We have again improved throughout this season and hope to keep it up in the summer ready for the next campaign.

Cheers ;)
