jenis
Can anyone tell me where to find records for the mine in Darnall and Attercliffe as most of my family seem to have been employed there in the late 19th Century?
Darbys1
if it is any help. All I can tell you, is that it was up staniforth Road, then turn left at kettle bridge, about a mile down the road cross over the railway bridge on the right, onto a coal track, and it was somewhere there. I used to spend time there as a child, feeding the blind pitponies. I also used to go to a school a bit further up the road called Hammerton/Hampton road primary school, but unfortunately i can't find it anymore on any map. I guess it has gone withh all the rest. speeder
following the instructions above would put you somewhere in the vicinity of the Wholesale markets, which have been developed twice since the 60's so all trace will have gone, sorry. Droppingwell
There was a mine on the wholesale markets site it was called Nunnery Colliery, so if you are searching under attercliffe or Darnall it wont appear. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nunnery_Colliery I think the company that owned it also had Orgreave and Treeton Collierys further down the parkway and just in the Rotherham boundary.
