Francis Maude Should Resign

Recommended Posts

Sadly, Labour changed my old school into one specialising in the performing arts which will be useful for all the aspiring X-Factor candidates. I suppose that's why they no longer see any need to teach Latin, classics, Greek, Russian...

So you went to Myers Grove as well?

He said it to distract attention from Pastygate and No10 Dinnergate. It worked a treat. It's funny how Labour were all over the Tories about Pies and Donations but not a peep out of them about the panic of tanker drivers going on strike. Wonder why? Oh yes, that's right, Labour are the public face of the Unite union.

Labour said plenty. They said they didn't want a strike and urged the two parties to negotiate. They said it many times.

Maude made the simple mistake of assuming that people aren't incredibly stupid.

He forgot that 13 years of the state interfering in the minutiae of people's lives has left an entire nation unable to think for itself.

It was a simple and massive mistake. He wasn't asking people to store a bit of food or water. He was asking them to store petrol. And possibly encouraged them to store it an illegal way too.

People are stupid. They always have been. Maude imagined he was delivering the advice as if he was delivering it to a competent individual who would know how to handle petrol. The problem is that what is sound advice for that competent individual he imagined in his head is not sound advice for all individuals. We are not all the same - when it comes to petrol some of us know how to deal with it but most of us probably don't. He didn't consider that at all which is why his advice was so dangerous. A fallacy of composition on his part ;).

Not sure about that, they didn't ask me so it can't be an accurate percentage. I rather suspect they just guessed. I wonder what they thought what the other 19% thought?

To be fair to him, I think he is typing through his tears. Perhaps he should unplug his electrics with all the water around?

It was just a survey. They can't ask everyone. The other 19% probably back what the government did.

He instucted people to store petrol in their houses.

He actually said it, why deny it?

He actually said to store it in the garage in a jerry can. Obviously not everybody has a garage.

I'm still fascinated by the idea of who he thought he was delivering the message to. My bet is on a rugged middle-aged male with a penchant for the outdoor life, maybe with a ride-on petrol-driven lawn mower, a man who is therefore used to handling petrol, a man who has a decent sized property with a garage.
