Gleadly
Has anyone any recommendations on what to get for bird watching? Are binoculars suitable or should a scope be used? Don't really want to get a heavy scope. Ideally we would like to try before we buy. Are there any ornithologists around who would welcome us trying their scopes? Is there a good shop in or near Sheffield?
vinceb
Binoculars are better for general-purpose birding because they're more portable and manoeuvrable. A scope is sometimes useful if there's a fixed location you're trying to view at a distance e.g. a peregrine nest way up a cliff.
