1980's Nostalgia: What Would You Like to Forget?

Last week, an old friend from school sent me a film clip taken on a school outing in about 1986. There I was, dodgy perm, questionable dress sense and appaling white hoop earings.

I also seem to recall I had a strange fondness for cerise coloured clothing, yellow shoes, Wham and Aha. I even saw a couple of people on that clip who brought back a few memories that I might want to modify :hihi: .

What did you do, wear or listen to in the 80's that are probably best forgotten?

tortus shell NHS glasses - mine had a piece of rubber tubing holding the arm together after the school bully tried correcting my eyesight lol.

Two tone red or brown tank tops mother made from reclaimed wool.

cast off clothes from next door neighbours or off mothers church friends. The embarrassment of wearing 70s cloths in the 80s.

Mullet poodle perms the girls had at school

Dad mixing different coloured paint to make it go further. Yeps this was to cover the £Wood Chip on the Walls".

Choppers and BMX's

Ford escorts with CB aerials.

After 13 years of Phoney Blair and Gordon Clown anything is an improvment.

I doubt you can remember the last Tory Govt. 'er fiasco. Thatcher was carted off to the loony bin and all her evil fascist ministers vanished. 17% mortgage rates, South Yorks and other industrial areas devastated, there was no end to the carnage they caused. When a recession is in the north, then nobody cares, but when it affects London, the city banks etc then it is front page news. I remember every Govt since the 'Suez' crisis and apart from Ted Heath all the Tories have been inhuman monsters.

I think the 80's was the worst decade for music. Give me the 70's anyday.

LOL at 70's music being any good. It was only 78, 79 that started to see some sign of decent music.

The 80's had soul, rock, pop mixed with fashion and good tv.

The best decade for music for me are as follows...

50's

80's

60's

70's

early 90's

The 80s had some of the best Children's TV ever made IMHO, stuff like Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green (I want to buy the complete box set of all 3 but Mum won't let me), not to mention stuff like Pigeon Street, Fingermouse, The Flumps etc.. Also the Muppet Show rocked!

As for 80s music, sure some of it was dodgy, but no more or less so than some of the crap that fills the pop charts nowadays, no Crazy Frog for a start, although we did have daft comedy tracks like Star Trekkin' and the Spitting Image Chicken song, and don't even get me started on the likes of the Birdy song and those songs with ridiculous dances like Agadoo et al.

Every decade has had it's pap music to be fair.

I thought 80's music pretty abysmal compared to the 60's and 70's. The least said about Wham the better.

My generation saw the birth of the Stones, The Who et al.

Pure magic!!!

Is that all you remember in the 80's, wham? There was the police, the jam, the cure, simple minds, not forgetting some great metal bands, soul artist and the likes of michael jackson, prince ect.
