Jim Graham
Great innovators and / or industrialists indeed, and ones who built business empires on the backs of cheques written by Conservative and Liberal governments... but I really have no idea what they have to do with this thread. Neither do I. I think what the rather confused Balpin is admitting is that Sheffield was built by capitalists exploiting world markets to make a profit to invest in the city. So I am assuming he is agreeing with me that Sheffield's current dismal state is entirely due to the last 50 years of socialist rule in the city. That is why I suggest the south and west of the city cede from SCC and set up their own town council and leave the 19th century class war being fought in the rest of the city and join the 21st century. Jim Graham
But they made our City and county, as did I. What have you to show for either our City or or County. Nothing I expect. You made it? I suggest for the last 50 years you have been making it is what it is now. Having recently done some work at Endcliffe Hall, the former home of John Brown, I am guessing he was no socialist. Neither were Sorby, Firth, Bessemer, Mappin, Webb et al. When these capitalists were taking risks, investing and profiting the city was doing well. Then the socialist loons entered with their politics of envy. Look what happened next.
