Roger_B
Some Ordnance Survey maps show a radio/television transmitter mast in Wheata Wood near Grenoside village. There appears to be no trace of this structure on the ground. Does anyone know when the mast was removed?
andyofborg
it was probably nicked by the scrap metal thieves
Roger_B
I think it was removed long before the current spate of metal thefts.
peak4
Roger, I was asking a workmate about this today. He claims to see it from their house and his son runs to it sometimes for a bit of exercise. I presume this is the mast you're talking about; http://binged.it/I3VCGv Changing to Bird Eye View and zooming in a bit still shows it as being there, but obviously I don't know when the picture was taken. http://binged.it/HBDqWl Google also still shows it http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=53.443326,-1.508586&spn=0.000316,0.00101&hnear=Sheffield+S10+1NX,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=21 but it looks like the StreetView car didn't venture up Rough Lane, off Bower Lane. A mast can be seen on StreetView from Bower Lane I'm not saying it is the same.
satman2222
Isn't that a telemetry mast for the water tank in the woods?
