spooky3
There's a black market with alcohol because the black marketeers can sell it cheaper. How are heroin dealers going to stay in business when their product is vastly more expensive than what an addict can get from the NHS? What, even after health and safety, taxation, premises, every middleman's cut, etc, etc... If the NHS are intending to give it away for free, in whatever amounts are requested, on a 24 hour basis, then many other types of addicts will feel cheated and move towards the free stuff. But still there will be loads who don't want to get high in a clinic miles away from where they live, it isn't going to be as simple as you all claim. Hence another reason for the black market to exist.

harvey19
One very simple explanation. Cold hard cash. Or a stronger will to succeed ?

spooky3
Hmmm, change "alcoholic" to "heroin addict" here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4633970.stm

green
For all those that dont believe we shouldnt legalise drugs, its time Govt were honest about the costs of prohibition. How much does it cost to police? How much could we bring in if we taxed it. We need an honest debate.

It'll be sold somewhere so your comment isn't valid. If it's not easy to get hold of then it wouldn't work anyway, your point defeats your plan! It'll probably be "sold" from the same place that diamorphine is currently sold, legally. So yes I think it stands.
