RosyRat
Oh Rosy, please, this is Sheffield Forum. How long will it be before we get some muppets complaining about the roadworks AND saying that they miss the potholes and want them brought back? :hihi:

Cookingfat
and when they are all done it will be like the forth bridge used to be and start it all over again. but to make this work they must buy the best quality tarmac and not the cheap rubbish they put down now, not deriding Gipsy's but they could do a better job. so councilors you take enough of our money in spading fines, council tax, dropping executives wages in the town hall. please when you put out tenders for the work don't give it to the cheapest who will line your back pockets for getting the job, do as your electorate want you to do thats why you were voted in. but all this road work just a rouse because the elections are coming up, and this is not just another propaganda exercise in spin doctoring

WeX
so off the bat, 1bn will disappear in administration costs, while the rest will be blown on buying equipment and materials, then the company will hire a 5 man team and tell them to fix ALL the roads over the next 5 years. 1 year in and the last of the money has gone and only 5% of the cities roads will have even been inspected. jerseylad
I feel roads such as blackstock road should ban heavy vehicles cutting thru and using it as a shortcut. It really does not help having them churning up the smaller roads and residential roads that already have a great deal of traffic to deal with, blackstock feels like a dirt track right now! Aleksandr
If it's a private company, they'll have profit as their only motive, so we will see lovely smooth roads that look blooming marvellous when finished, but will break-up as soon as the company has been paid and gone bust, only to be set-up again under a different name to come in and fix the poor work of the previous company using money from yet another grant. The best way to keep a road in good nick, is to pay someone to look after it - permanently. All blame or praise can be fairly attributed accordingly, and costs will be kept to a minimum. We know this works, but for some reason have to go for the inferior model these days.
