Chris_Sleeps
I understand that that doesn't mean a total ban. Then you're miles ahead of others on here. Really ... something fun now. T'is Saturday.
Aleksandr
There is a ban on alcohol in the alcohol-free area...why are you struggling to grasp this?Reality conflicts with his ideology.
AJ sheffield
Why do they assume Muslims are offended by alcohol consumption? I know Muslims that consume alcohol. Nearly every male Muslim under 30 I know regularly drinks in pubs.
mafya
We're gradually seeing more and more "accommodation for Muslims", like toilets in some prisons having to be re-plumbed so they're not facing Mecca. Its getting silly. When I was in prison a muslim inmate was in a cell that when he was praying the toilet was in front of his face and he just requested a cell change and got another cell. No toilet was re plumbed.

I know Muslims that consume alcohol.Best not name them if they are your friends as they would likely suffer severe punishment.

ferno
Don't be daft. Not my way of life; I left uni years ago! This sort of thing will keep happening though, in places of education, work, retail, recreation etc., chipping away little by little until we have nothing left to live for. How many universities will it take to reconsider their serving of alcohol principles before you consider life isn't worth living?

ferno
Don't be silly! You said that suggesting some bars at a university restict alcohol sales was the start of a process that would lead you to feel life isn't worth living, I wondered what the tipping point was? Badlittlepup
Muslims are still very much in the minority - white sort-of-secular-sort-of-Christian people are the majority by a long way. There is no evidence whatsoever that Islam is going to 'take over'. An increase in the number of Muslims in the population is not the same thing as them becoming 'dominant'. This is talking on a national scale of course - it may be different in some pockets of the country with larger Muslim populations. This area has a very, very high Muslim population. I would guess that when the large number of illegals are taken into account with the official figures it is probably a majority in that area, it is an area I lived in for quite some time. There is a real extremist element in that area including threats to muslim women who don't wear veils, campaigns to turn it into a muslim enclave under sharia law and a non-Muslim RE teacher was viciously attacked. And as the university itself says the muslim women who attend the university are not allowed to attend a uni away from home or even in the centre of London, and they have to be escorted to and from uni by a male relative. Given this type of background and the university's position in the community wouldn't it perhaps be better for them to be teaching some tolerance and integration rather than further entrenching this seperatist attitude? After all this uni has plenty of coffee shops and food outlets that don't serve alcohol so I'm not really sure why this is necessary other than as a marketing stunt designed to appeal to exactly this sort of rather extreme attitude. Incidentally you might find that the number of gay students at London Met is rather low as it has a reputation for being rather an unwelcoming campus for such students.
