London met uni considering banning alcohol for its muslim students.

This area has a very, very high Muslim population. I would guess that when the large number of illegals are taken into account with the official figures it is probably a majority in that area, it is an area I lived in for quite some time.

There is a real extremist element in that area including threats to muslim women who don't wear veils, campaigns to turn it into a muslim enclave under sharia law and a non-Muslim RE teacher was viciously attacked. And as the university itself says the muslim women who attend the university are not allowed to attend a uni away from home or even in the centre of London, and they have to be escorted to and from uni by a male relative.

Given this type of background and the university's position in the community wouldn't it perhaps be better for them to be teaching some tolerance and integration rather than further entrenching this seperatist attitude? After all this uni has plenty of coffee shops and food outlets that don't serve alcohol so I'm not really sure why this is necessary other than as a marketing stunt designed to appeal to exactly this sort of rather extreme attitude.

Incidentally you might find that the number of gay students at London Met is rather low as it has a reputation for being rather an unwelcoming campus for such students.

Many of its female Muslim students "can only really go to university within four miles of home and have to be delivered and picked up by a close male relative", he said.
