London met uni considering banning alcohol for its muslim students.

Recommended Posts

I never read that. Can you provide proof?

Here is what I read.

Alcohol is a barrier to many Muslim students participating in freshers events and often in society activities - so we're in support of moves to have
some alcohol-free zones
and events.

"Though
if a student wants to drink in their lifestyle, we of course don't want to ban that
."

So there we go. Some events with alcohol, some alcohol free, and there is no alcohol ban.

You're not doing very well here. The quote you've used clearly indicates, one can infer, that alcohol will be banned from Freshers' Week. The second part of that statement in no way negates that, as you know full well.

I'd like to know why this is, is it in the Koran? Is it the same for men too?

No It's not in the Qu'ran.

Regarding the OP, what a silly story. Firstly they won't ban it simply because, well they won't. Secondly, I don't know one Muslim (and I know a lot) who would ask for it banning. Muslims tend to have the same attitude as me (and I don't drink, also for religious reasons) and that is, if you want to drink that is your choice, if I dont want to drink I will a) not go to places that serve alcohol or b) not drink alcohol if I do go to somewhere that serves it.

Oh, I see, you meant "What would you describe extreme-fundamentalist islamists as?"

Don't take the extreme elements of a religion and use them to slag off every member of that religion, it makes you look like a bigot.

Surely he's not talking about the 'extreme' elements of the religion, just the fundamentals - the essence, if you will.

No it doesn't. If some areas are alcohol free, then some areas sell alcohol - hence there is no ban on alcohol at Freshers week.

No ban. Non-story.

I sometimes think these stories are intended to make the muslim haters of our country come out in force,no wonder so many are racist when they see stories like these.
Why do you see those who seek to protect their way of life from destruction as Muslim haters or racists? Please justify that extraordinary statement!

You've clearly not understood what I have said, and you seek to insult me by maliciously accusing me of having a prejudiced view of Muslims. Apologise.

I was referring to this part of your post

This I find very strange, because there is no point in Muslims trying to 'integrate' with non-Muslims at university as they will be unable to partake of a social life with non-Muslims outside and after university anyway, unless this constitutes a life-long ban on alcohol for all graduates!

Which I took to mean you saying Muslims would not speak to non-Muslims once they graduated. If I've misread your intention there, then I apologise - re-reading it, it looks like you might be saying they won't be able to socialise because all social activity revolves around booze? I'm not sure that's true either but that's not how I first read your post, so sorry for misinterpreting it.

You feel your way of life has been destructed because someone at a university in London has suggested alcohol-free zones?

No ban. Non-story.

If an area that sold alcohol is made into an alcohol free area then alcohol has effectively been banned in said area no??
