Then like you say, you would need to ask who then created creator, who created the creator, and who created that creator ad infinitum. You will never have a beginning! Our understanding of the creation of this universe is that it all started with what is called the big bang. That is the point where time and space began so nothing existed before that event, even a creator God. If you believe that it was created by God then that is just a question of faith and as you know faith requires no proof. As many have said about how it all came about the correct answer is we simply don't know as asking what there was before the big bang is meaningless.
