Vote lib dem in local elections?

Recommended Posts

Although I am a Labour supporter I have a great deal of sympathy with Nick Clegg`s position. The Cons. were the largest party and the only other option was to agree not to vote against a list of things in their manifesto and prepare for another election in 2 years time. Instead we have a situation where the NHS is being dismantled and Americanised which was not in the manifesto. This lot are going to leave us in a worse state than Thatcher did. The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.

The Liberal Democrat's position is impossible because they are making massive cuts in central government which impact upon local government.

And then say they are against those cuts in local government because they realise the harm they are doing locally.

Duplicitous. Just a little.

Their position is impossible because the Labour administration left us in 2009 with no money to spend and the biggest budget defecit in history; £152,706,000,000, beating their previous 2008 record of £69,231,000,000.

Those same politicians in opposition cynically oppose all the cuts they were planning in government without explaining how or what they would do different. Duping the infantile electorate into thinking that they are a credible option with even the first idea of how to handle the worst economic disaster this country has ever faced.

Desperately oppostunist? Just a little.

Edit to add: My opinion is that the Labour council here are just as disasterous as the Labour government of Gordon Brown and nither shall get my vote for a substantial number of years. Labour deserve to be in the electoral wilderness and if they want to fight local elections on national issues they better get ready to defend their record and think up some actual policies.

I was the recipient of a 'vote lib dem' leaflet today.

are they<removed> joking?

who in their right mind would vote for the lying, duplicitous judases ever, ever, ever again.

Well I, like lots of others would.................because the thought of Labour ever getting back in the driving seat is too horrific to contemplate.Anyone with a grain of intelligence knows we are really finished if that was to ever happen, not that we are doing that great now,but that's not entirely the fault of the coalition.the job they took on was massive and still is.People are going to have to get used to going without their dummies for a while and wake up to the real austerity in lots of countries around the world.Lots of moaners on here don't know they are born!

Unfortunately, if your taxes have increased, that's because they're trying to help the poorest in society by cutting theirs. We can't have it both ways. If you want to take care of the poorest, you have to be prepared to contribute.

Cutting the 50p tax, adding vat to pasties, tripling tuition fees, fully privatising the nhs, destroying the entire public sector. Helping the poorest in society?

Contribute to the poor by cutting jobs?

The current con-dem coalition has done more to harm the poorest and help the rich than any before it.

Not since Edwardian times has the disparity between classes been so obvious.

New labour too is depressingly Tory toward big business. But seeing how much better pensioners have been treated since 1997 they at least seem not completely devoid of humanity.

Unfortunately until proportional representation comes in there is no alternative.

Local elections are pretty irrelevant. Trading one numpty for another and you are still left with numpties.

Saying all that,it is a good chance to hurt the liberals and make them think twice about betraying their morals and voters again in the future. If we must have numpties making decisions for our city I hope they will be socialist numpties.

If the general election had occurred a year earlier, we would still have had the same deficit. I don't remember any of the party leaders calling for cuts in the proposed budgets in the late 2000's. That only seemed to happen after the election.

They were all in it together.

I do remember Darling making a comment about the current position being unsustainable or something similar shortly after he became chancellor. I think that was what 'unleashed the forces of hell' from downing street.

That nobody opposed the spending only serves my argument. It's very difficult to oppose spending, especially when nobody is paying the bill. The public don't thank you for fiscal responsibility. That only the chancellor spoke out about Labour's spending spree and the party still have no response to the crisis beyond 'those nasty Tories and their cuts' just shows what an irresponsible opportunistic party they are. Totally undeserving of any office IMO.
