Anders Breivik sentenced

Bad idea.

1) He's stated that he expected to die as part of his plans.

2) His video released after the event was an attempt to portray himself as a martyr for his cause.

Having him stand in court and attempt to justify his actions is the best thing that can have happened given the circumstances. Even those who think that he may have had a point (of which there were a handful on this site at the time of the attacks and their immediate fallout), are going to find it hard to justify similar activity as being "popular but not talked about" in the wider public.

If he'd died on that day, then there would be a bigger group of people who sympathised with him than there is today.

Why when no one will see it other than the few people in the court room?

Had he have died on the day with no publicity no one would know anything about him.

Would have been a little bit awkward had they accidentally shot the wrong guy... Not to mention that a lot of people would consider that to be a lesser punishment than life in prison.

I quite agree and thats why, every precaution is made to endure these type of prisoners don't take the easy way out,and take their own lives,as so many try to do.

Although some serial killers have managed to do it,such as Harold Shipman and Fred West.

While we're not allowed to see live uninterrupted video of his rantings (he's already been told off by the judge for not staying on topic), there are no restrictions for reporters to relay what he says. I'd imagine once the sessions have finished, everything he says will be in the public domain as part of the documentation of the trial.

Worth noting, that if it'd happened in the UK, there wouldn't be any live coverage of the proceedings.

Had he have died on the day with no publicity no one would know anything about him.

Except he went to the precautions of making a handful of videos explaining who he was, why he did it and why other people should join the cause, aimed directly at people like his collegues at the EDL.

The press would still have been all over him even if he had died. And virtually everyone would have wanted to know why on earth he did it. If he was dead, it would be very easy for him to have been portrayed as a martyr or as a one off crazy person who never really intended to do what he did. On the other hand, having him stood in court saying "you need to aquit(sp?) me, so I can do it again" gives us a much clearer, unarguable view of what he's really like.

Because it wouldn't have made the news?

The only thing that needed to make the news was a man was shot whilst on a killing spree. There should be no media hype around it, then he couldn’t gain any support of sympathy for his cause.

Are you being serious? Here are today's headlines - a man has died while on a killing spree. No other details are being released in case you all think it was a good idea.

Yes, I'm sure that's all that would have been reported, just the basic details.
