BarryRiley
Right, compare the two.... Official mounted police high vis: http://oxford.indymedia.org.uk/images/2010/11/468933.jpg Polite civilian high vis: http://www.countryfirstdirect.co.uk/admin1/image/4098equisafety_high_vis_polite_waistcoat.jpg With the light of the first picture on the second (rather than the flooding making it look cartoon-like), I'd say yes, they're quite similar. Remember, the average man on the street doesn't have an intricate knowledge of mounted police-wear. They only recognise the basic branding (hence why branding exists) which are the font, the basic colours and the checkered design, which exist on both. Resident
However, according to this forum, everyone who doesn't notice every single fraction of detail in their peripheral vision and mentally process it beyond doubt shouldn't be allowed to drive. But if you're approaching from behind (as you would need to be to read it) then it's not in your peripheral vision field, it's directly in your forward vision. Agent Orange
Right, here we go... Impersonating a Police Officer Section 90 Police Act 1996 creates several offences relating to the impersonation of police officers or the possession of articles of police uniform, namely: impersonating a police officer (including a special constable); making a statement or doing any act calculated falsely to suggest membership of a police force; wearing a police uniform calculated to deceive; possessing an article of police uniform. To be charged with impersonating a police officer, it would have to be proven that the rider has applied one or more of above.
anywebsite
But if you're approaching from behind (as you would need to be to read it) then it's not in your peripheral vision field, it's directly in your forward vision. In the road at that, you should be looking at what's in front of you in the road when driving. It's not just a little detail, they're large block capitals on a hi vis jacket. You have to be able to read it, or you can't legally drive, ask the DVLA.
