New to the area - looking for a decent local golf course

Recommended Posts

I golf nuts and have been play since i was small. Finally now im on part time work i have enough time to get a couple of holes of golf in a week.

I was hoping to find a local golf course for when a couple of my old friends come up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's very much dependent on where in Sheffield you are living and where your friends will be staying or where you are willing to travel within Sheffield etc. Having played them all in my opinion Birley is the easiest but has always been well kept when I have been. Tinsley is always easiest for a quick round for me as it is directly off the M1 and not too far to commute, has a couple of tricky holes and is always in good condition also.

Beauchief is a treat, I've only played it a few times but it is my favourite course in Sheffield by a country mile. Challenging and the best kept course in Sheffield, only issue I have with it is the time it takes to get round. Once went on a saturday and struggled to get the full round in as the older generation can take a while. Played it in the week on a hot summer day and it was a longish round but really enjoyed it. Not overly far from town and an easy commute, well worth the travel.

I play Lindrick now and haven't played in Sheffield for a while therefore people might have more upto date information, however Beauchief definately wins hands down for me.

BB agree with you 100%, I was a member at Tinsley; yes its municipal, but they have members. I was not the greatest but loved it, great course. Birley not bad but not my favourite. Beauchief is as you say a treat, the 1st is a beggar though, or can be. You mentioned the older ones I went there a good few years ago & some old guys were playing "speed golf", they took their shots then ran to the balls phew :)
