A No-Claims Bonus question

Recommended Posts

Iv'e got a couple of classic cars and the no claims bonus does not apply to that insurance, the price of the insurance for the year is £76 fully comp so to me it is not worth arguing about, I keep my no claims for my every day cars.

As said above, the driver has the no claims but it applies to one vehicle only. If you have 3 or 4 cars, you need to build up 3 or 4 lots of NCB. Daft really - you're either a steady driver or you're not, whatever you drive.

However, haggling can make a difference. II tend to have several cars and on occasion have managed to negotiate at least part NCB on a new policy, ie I have 10 years plus on my main 'workhorse' car and if I get another one of my existing insurers might allow me 2 or 3 years as a gesture on the new policy.

Admiral's multi-car is another good one to try, though for classics the cost of limited mileage policies with specialist companies can be so low it's not worth worrying about.

I have a trade insurance and I do not get or build up no claims on it at all, I have 4 vehicles and a separate classic cars insurance non of them can I build no claims on, it is still a lot cheaper than insuring individual vehicles,I did have a full no claims from previous insurance but the insurance company say that you can only keep the no claims for 12 months and not on trade insurance,I hate insurance company's they are in the risk business but they don't like taking risks themselves,I move around a lot loyalty does not pay I have found with insurance company's,having said that the insurance company I am with at the moment seem OK and I will see what they are like when it comes to renewal.

  • 4 weeks later...

I forgot all about this.

Just to update, last week I finally got the insurance company to concede, after listening to the recording of the original call, that I was sold something (normal motor insurance) that I wasn't asking for (classic motor insurance).

They have therefore waived any extra fees for the NCB element.
