22.04.12 - Sheffield Forum 8-4 Commercial

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum claimed a friendly victory on a very wet morning of football. Forum had 17 players today for this game which was rolling and unlimited subs. Starting line up was a mix of regular starters and subs and the squad also included 2 players from the back end of last season.

Forum started well, applying pressure and stopping Commercial passing the midfield area. Commercial attempted the long ball but that just skid off the surface for a goal kick. It was from this that Forum took the lead. Adam Smiths kick found its way to Daniel Callow in attack who ran through on goal. Heading one on one with Commercial keeper, he cooly chipped the ball over the keeper.

By now Forum were well on top and looked to double the lead a minute later as the ball was played from the left into the area. Middlebrook had an open goal to aim for, hit it straight and ran away celebrating. Unfortunately, the ball had become stuck in a mud puddle right on the goal line so play continued from the goal keeper who had got back to grab the ball.

The lead was eventually doubled though, Tom Gray played a perfect ball for Ashley Proctor to chase down. He beat the defender for pace before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting home. Forum 2 goals to the good and looking comfortable.

The deficit though was cut when a Commercial free kick from outside the area somehow managed to evade Smiths arms and find its way into the net.

Forum should have made it 3 but Phillip Gills effort from the corner of the area come back off the post. Gill is still looking for his first goal of the season and seems to have the same kind of luck every other game :hihi:

Commercial pulled level after escaping punishment for a foul on Matthew Corker as he was pushed in the back in the build up to the goal. The push meant Corker missed his header and let the forward through on goal to bring it back to 2-2.

Luck seemed to continue to evade Forum as Commercial took the lead. Defender Robbie Hume went down injured when tracking back leaving the winger free to play the ball across the area where the ball was put away for Commercials third. Shock for Forum as they had been on top for most of the game, Commercial putting away all 3 of their chances. Ryan Lynch came on for Hume.

A fourth was added shortly afterwards. A cross from Forums right was deflected into his own goal be centre back Corker. It was a quality finish even, just a shame it was the wrong net. :suspect:

Sheffield Forum regrouped and surged forward. They managed to pull one back just before half time this time with a little bit of luck falling Forums way. Phillip Gill hit another shot which again hit the post but Kyle Dowling was on hand to smash home the follow up.

Half Time: Sheffield Forum 3-4 Commercial

Forum made their remaining 5 changes at half time. Liam Wales, Daniel Sheedy, Kane Conway, Andy Coates and Kevin Carroll came on for their 45 minutes.

They made a great start, had a few chances but it took about 10 minutes before Forum equalised. Wales played a clever 1-2 with Sheedy and Wales shot hit the back of the net.

It now seemed like a matter of time before Forum took the lead and it wasnt long in coming. Wales again the scorer after he was given the ball by Coates. A little run ended with another quality finish.

Commercial now rarely threatened the Forum goal as Shaun Baugh and Corker kept a solid back line, cleaning up very well.

A 2 goal cushion was once again installed. Tom Gray this time took the corner, an in-swinger from the right which was met by a diving Baugh at the back post for his first goal since joining the club.

In-form Wales netted his hat-trick. Dowling found Wales on the left, he came inside and hit an unstoppable shot which bounced off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net. It was a great goal and impact from Wales after coming on at half time.

At 7-4, Sheffield Forum were more than comfortable but added one more goal. Tom Gray after all his excellent work finally got a goal of his own. After rounding a couple of player his shot was parried by the Commercial keeper but he was quickest to react and managed to get his first of the season.

It could have been more, the woodwork was hit for a 3rd time as Daniel Sheedys shot rattled the cross bar.

It was a positive performance from Forum but the goals conceded were unlucky or sloppy. Luckily this time they had the firepower to overcome that and are now full of confidence ahead of the final Imperial league game next week. Sheffield Forum travel to Bradway Rec to face Smithywood Utd in a replay of a game from last month. Forum can finish between 5th and 3rd depending on other results. A win on Sunday will leave them 3rd or 4th.

Team: Smith, Hume (Lynch), Baugh, Corker, Hunter (Conway), Gill (Carroll), Dowling (Coates), Gray, Proctor (Wales), Callow (Dowling), Middlebrook (Sheedy).

Forum will face Hillsborough Club after the Smithywood game, most likely the 6th May in the final game of friendlies between the 4 teams.
