Tony
Official GDP figures are out later today and the media and politicians alike are waiting to seize on the big picture, though it must be said that the actual stat's take years to reveal themselves. But what's it like in your house? Recession or no recession?
mj.scuba
Not much change for us. What is hitting us a little is inflation but with fairly stagnant incomes. Pay just isn't keeping up with inflation, eroding our expendible income.
MrSmith
But what's it like in your house? Recession or no recession? Income is lower but because of sensible spending and budgeting over the years, it hasn't made any difference to our lifestyle.
Ms Macbeth
We are a retired couple, and our state pensions, although meagre to start with, have risen by 5.2% this year, better than in previous years. We manage very well, and because we don't spend much on expensive consumables, or use our car very much we are seeing little difference in our standard of living. alchresearch
No change here. Food is still cheap as supermarkets fight for business. Car fuel has gone up but I've combated that by driving more conservatively and making sure my tyres are at the correct pressure.
Cyclone
My market area is still strong, it hasn't had any affect on me, touch wood.
charliewag
my job in engineering hasn't been affected by the recession and my wife, who works for the nhs, has even had an upgrade in her job. rather than save a lot and earn little interest we've paid extra on the mortgage thus paying it off early. i suppose we have been lucky but my eldest son is a uni graduate and he's working with me which is not his chosen field. my other son finishes college soon and his work prospects don't look great. six45ive
Getting an incremental wage rise this year plus a 1% national rise plus an increase in the threshold of when tax is paid so everything's pretty okay dokay atm. Thanks tax payers!
taxman
I suppose in one way it's been good for us. The price of houses is low just when we are buying.
Cyclone
I suppose in one way it's been good for us. The price of houses is low just when we are buying. Hardly low, but at least it killed the massive inflation that occurred from 2000 to 2007.
