Mechanic recommendations for 307 diesel

Recommended Posts

I am after a decent mechanic who is familiar with working with diesels ideally peugeot who doesnt want to rip me off n play guessing games of what maybe up?

Bit of info on car - 307 202 2ltr 90bhp i have loss of power when disconnecting the maf the car will run fine, i have had the egr, solinoid and maf sensor replaced with genuine parts and still the car runs in what i would say is limp mode can only rev to 2000rpm. When changing the maf there was some oil in the air pipes? i have the diagnostic codes from planet peugeot diagnostic and the problem is mass air flow too high?

I am loosing faith in my car fast and with mechanics in general so any help would really be appreciated

Does it have a particulate filter in the exhaust? A fault with that can sometimes bring up incorrect MAF (mass air-flow) readings.

No, the 90 BHP model doesn't have a particulate filter.

When you replaced the parts did you perform a BSI reset?

It is possible that the replacement MAF sensor you got is faulty. What is the part code on it? It should be 5WK9621.

What condition is the air filter box in? Is it all securely fastened? The catches on the back are notorious for not hooking in correctly and getting broken off, allowing more air into the system after the air filter.

The oil spray could also be an issue. I've looked at a few Pugs where oil has coated the wire filament and sensor in the MAF and caused erroneous readings or too much air to be drawn in because it's coated in oil.

I'd do an oil change and then strip off all the oil breather pipes and give them a really good clean. It could just be air pressure blowing old oil coating the inside of the pipes.

Was the car ok before the service?

On the Pug Forums there was a chap who had a similar problem to yours. He'd had it serviced and it was running quite poor after. I took a look and noticed that the mechanic hadn't fastened the air box on properly at the back.

When you change the air filter its best to disconnect the MAF and withdraw the entire plastic unit from the engine bay, rather than just removing the lid.

hi thanks checked the air filter box and it looks pretty new had another diagnostic and now reading mass air flow too low! do you actually work on cars? i'm going to give up soon if i dont find someone who actually knows what there doing, im just finding that most places just use apprentices and a diagnostic unit i really need a proper mechanic lol :)

Yep, I'm a freelance Peugeot tech, specialising in 307 diesels!

Unfortunately its very hard to try and diagnose a fault without physically seeing it and am just going through the common issues.

Have you took it to 307PugPete in Rotherham?
