davyboy
Last week on the Today programme I heard that dipstick Keith Vaz describe a set up that had been personned. He meant manned. Can you beat it for stupidity?
Hots on
It is ridiculous, and most women would find it ridiculous too, I'm sure.
medusa
I think that's a really daft way to use language anyway. Surely if you want to avoid saying 'manned' then all you have to do is to substitute the word 'staffed' and nobody thinks you're going out of your way to be politically correct. ECCOnoob
Its a genuine word meaning the same thing. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/personned Maybe not so stupid after all.

JFKvsNixon
Last week on the Today programme I heard that dipstick Keith Vaz describe a set up that had been personned. He meant manned. Can you beat it for stupidity? It's not a word I'd use, but what's the big deal?
Kerrangaroo
It's not a word I'd use, but what's the big deal? I agree, I don't know what the world and MANkind are coming to.
iansheff
I agree, I don't know what the world and MANkind are coming to. Shouldn't that be personkind?
Kerrangaroo
Shouldn't that be personkind? That was my point. While it might be PC to substitute one word for another it's a bit silly to use one for fear of genderising.
