They're acting as a brake on the Tories more extreme measures while at the same time playing an important role in preventing Labour from getting back in power. I am sure the libs knew they were on dire straights and new that all their votes counted, and so they would have voted for Lib Dems in as many numbers as possible....but people have realised that they were stuffed by them and decided to give them the elbow.... By which you mean they did the only thing they could and chose the party which had a marginal majority to work together with to form a coalition government with them as the minor partner.
