Surely they realised they could never win the general election and hence the best they could ever hope for is a subset of the policies as a part of a coalition combined with whichever party had enough seats to form a coalition? So if they did not want that, they should not have voted for that. The LibDems did a good job of deceiving voters (and their own rank and file) that they were the only party not fronted by an assortment of megalomaniacs, sociopaths and compulsive liars. A brilliant plan if we wanted to send the message "we don't want your filthy taxes on your dirty enormous incomes."
