What bothers me about the headlines in today's Star is the one about Ched Evans, the Sheffield United footballer, "fighting to clear his name." http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/sheffield-united-player-ched-fights-to-clear-his-name-1-4480985 The wording of the headline gives the impression that an injustice may have been done. If it had been someone of lesser importance than a high profile footballer, the headline might well have read something like: "Convicted rapist appeals guilty verdict." It happens all the time in the press, over where I live as well. Sports and entertainment personalities get the soft shoe treatment, while everyone else is portrayed in a starker fashion, no holds barred. Message to mods: I am not trying to open up a debate about the merits of the court decision here. This is a posting about the way that the press treats personalities differently from ordinary people.
