Sheffield Star non-stories megathread

While I'm here, how about the delightful Mr Barber on page 5 of tonight's Star (I couldn't find the story in the on-line version) whose precious lamb of a 14 year old son "struggled to cope" with classes at Westfield school because it was hot. Mr Barber thinks his little darling should be allowed to wear shorts to school. Apparently, it's "unfair" because the girls can wear skirts.

And when said 'child' was punished for turning up in shorts he shouldn't have been wearing, this further annoyed our Mr Barber. "It was ridiculous - it was just like they wanted to make a point about it". Yes, Mr Barber, that's what punishment is - making a point about doing something wrong in order to try and get the person to do it differently next time. He's starting a petition apparently. When this child grows up & leaves school and maybe has to work in an office or any job where smartish long trousers are the norm, how on earth will he cope? Will he be taking days off when the weather gets warm? Or maybe he'll get Daddy to contact the local paper again and make a fuss because apparently he was "really upset" about what happened. And who's to blame for that? Oh yes, parents who knowingly sent him to school in the wrong clothes....

God help us....

Lets hope Mr Barber lives to regret teaching his son to challenge the rules when it's his rules that start to be challenged and disobeyed :hihi: Absolute grub

And another one from today's Star - page 5 - a story about a guy from Barnsley who was attacked on a night out in Wiltshire. He was "one of three men assaulted by a gang of men who ran riot through the town".

That well known town of Wiltshire presumably, since no other place is mentioned in the article....

Maybe Swindon?

And a photo caption saying: "Sheffield university vox pop Firth Court"! I noticed in last Thursday's paper they had another one of those "caption goes here" things underneath a photo! They do it so often & that really is just sloppy - how can you forget to put the actual caption in?!

Very often because you have done it correctly but the system has an electronic burp and restores the page layout to the previous one.

If it does it that often, shouldn't someone be checking it before it's put out there for the public to read?

Amazing Story here

Landlord helps with eco glass

A STUDENT housing landlord has helped to reduce her tenants’ bills by fitting energy-efficient glass in the property’s windows.

Julia Binns decided to ‘go green’ by installing Planitherm glass after the students complained of poor insulation.

“One of them called me afterwards to say how unbelievably warm the flat was and, as a landlord, it’s fantastic to have satisfied tenants,” said Julia.
