Jeffrey Shaw
Page 7 in todays STAR has a story about the cashless system to be used by Scrapyards, the main picture has the title "Sprapyards targeted in metal theft crackdown" so much for proof reading. What a joke this once brilliant paper has turned out to be. But I would think that headline suited the story? Why is it a 'blunder'? Surely because a story about non-use of cash is not inherently about metal theft. Mind, cash [coinage] is 'metal', so...
Badlittlepup
Surely because a story about non-use of cash is not inherently about metal theft. Mind, cash [coinage] is 'metal', so... But the non-use of cash is being introduced to stop metal theft. Therefore it is part of a clampdown on metal theft, and one which is targeting scrapyards. Kid Sampson
Another cracker today. "Woman issued (incorrectly) with parking ticket at ASDA, complains, ticket cancelled." Phew!
SteelCityMan
I know this forum loves to give the Star a regular kicking, but I'm at a loss as to what some people think should be in a local newspaper. It's easy to take the **ss out of some stories, but local papers run local stories. Yes, the paper isn't what it once was (what paper is?) but with an ever smaller budget, it is still the only place for many to keep up with what's happening in the area. And as for the oft trotted out "they get all their stories on here". Well, that's rather delusional. The paper still carries investigative journalism, runs campaigns, publishes a topical cartoonist, champions the city and has some excellent columns. It's far from perfect and certainly carries far too many typos (a result of the redundancies of subeditors), but the city would be poorer if it wasn't here. As much as I enjoy Sheffield Forum, I'm not sure the same could be said about it.
