I find it very strange that they are taking him to court for £169!!! I know its a lot to him but thats pitance to the council.

But they're very adept at screwing money from easy prey, it's the ones that put up a decent fight that cause them to lose their bottle.

This in The Star today:

http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/butlins_say_bye_de_bye_as_group_turned_away_after_30_years_1_3551750

A GROUP of Sheffield people with learning disabilities has been turned away from their annual September holiday at Butlins in Skegness - because their presence is ‘intimidating’ to families with young children.

A party from a weekly club which meets at Firth Park’s Milan Centre every Friday night has enjoyed an annual week on the Lincolnshire coast for the last 19 years - but this year’s trip has been cancelled by camp managers.

Butlins says the group of 26 people looked after by 10 carers has simply grown too large - and they would still be happy to take them in two batches.

I find it hard to believe that under 5s would be worried by outsiders. As for over 5s, what sort of person would take their children away from school right at the beginning of a school year?

Yet another non story on the front page of today's star. Complete with the compulsary sad picture and inaccurate tag line (Gary can't have a holiday)

All full of "bye de bye" and cancelling bookings evil butlins.

Then you get to the end of the story where you find out that they can go just as a split group over 2 weeks so whats the story?

"its their only chance of an holiday" claims the mum. But they can still have one according to Butlins.

Surely there was more important news happening yesterday?

Mrs Staniland said breaking the holiday into two groups on separate dates was not an option as the council funding was only for a certain date.

Just seen that on the BBC report. is that correct? Surely the funding is for trip regardless of date.

I can see Butlins viewpoint, if i rang up and said i wanted to book a 36 strong all adult party then i would expect to be kicked back

imo Butlins shouldn't count the number of carers within the group as part of the group, because they are essential 'extras'. If they based their decision on the core group of people and still regarded them as too many then thats different...
