Ghostrider
The only problem with that is there really aren't many "new types of restaurant" - it's all been done before (albeit less so in Sheffield than most cities). Maybe Fellicini's feel that the market for mid-range Italian fare is too competitive in this city? There are no shortage of places claiming to be "Italian" and serving up similar fare to that which Fellicini's served up in similar surroundings. The fact they've not changed their flagship restaurant in Bakewell, in beautiful surroundings by the river, to a "Mud Crab" tells us a lot I think. I suspect they are trying to capitalise on a younger, more urban crowd, in Sheffield and feel that the appeal of Burgers and Ribs and Nachos is greater than that of pasta - and maybe they are right too? I'd visit if the fare was outstandingly good or if they did something genuinely different from what I could get elsewhere. A nice thick Argentinian flame-grilled steak, cut as thick as I want it, would be a nice addition to the Sheffield scene perhaps? Or a really authentic Carribean restaurant with salt-fish and ackee, rice n peas, beef jerky - now that would be good. Even a top class Greek restaurant with Ouzo and bouzouki music and a good stifado would be nice. I hope this place does well and may be tempted to have a closer look - but initially the idea of a mystery "custom" burger doesn't sway me much. emma.cook3
Could well be. With Yankee's, Uncle Sam's and Champs on that stretch, they'll need to pretend at least, that they are offering something different and better in some way. That's probably why they are speaking of "custom" burgers - which sounds like a right load on marketing nonsense to me. But maybe it will be sufficient, along with the rather nice name, to bring folks through the door. Maybe they'll be offering jambalya, crawfish pie and filigumbo too? Maybe you should open a restaurant, got some good ideas there

jamesogt
I went to Handmade Burger Co at centertainment the other day, probably the best burger I have had in Sheffield. Put Sam's and Yankee's 'football burgers' to shame.
watusi
Menu's up online now... http://www.mudcrabdiner.co.uk/menus/mudcrab-menu.pdf Went last night and had Grinch Wine Bar special fried chicken, Cheeseburger with Chilli and Baked Alaska. All really nice and they sell a peak district lager called Moravska that was rather tasty. One bad point is not much choice for Vegetarians - for mains there's a choice of 1 pizza and that's it really. The 6 napkin burger looks dangerous, six burgers! mossdog
Must resist Totally agree!...................actually Yankees ought to consider changing their image after a 1000 years selling burgers. We went to Gauchos in London recently,a fantastic steak house offering prime Argentinian beef.Makes you realize that most people especially round these parts have never eaten good steak.Yankees would be ideal for a Gauchos type operation and whereas the cost would be more than the rubbishburgers sold everywhere,I reckon the place would be rammed most nights if the management were capable. We went to a place on Surrey street last year and have to say the prime steaks we sampled were only fit for burger in a bun fare. The trouble is most suppliers to these restaurants round here,is that they only sell their lesser grade stuff, like old bangers from the end of the auction at Bakewell market. The good meat goes further south where people will pay for quality, most Sheffielders shop on price alone. However a good steakhouse is ready for a comeback................Berni Inns made fortunes till they lost the plot! jamesogt
By their own admission based on Ed Debevic's in the USA. They have used a little more artistic licence with their pricing USA = £6.39 or $10.05 http://www.eddebevics.com/ UK = £9.95 or $15.62 If it is good they may get away with it, would most Sheffielder's pay a tenner for a burger? I am not so sure. Review to follow......
watusi
There's places that charge more, Cricket Inn for example. And that's a far inferior burger IMO. In fact Relish just down the road is £11 with nowt on it: http://www.relishrelish.co.uk/classics.html
Doom
Menu looks great, if a little expensive (£12 for cheese n bacon burger + Chips) I look forward to trying it I went on Friday night and had the cheese burger with bacon......Although I don't claim to be a burger expert, it was the nicest I've had to date. For a starter I had the Grinch Wine Bar special fried chicken....That was decent, but I didn't enjoy it anything like as much as the burger. It's not a place I'd go out of my way to go to again, but the next time I'm up Ecclesall Road I''ll probably pop in for another burger.
