If I follow your post to it's (illogical) conclusion you are claiming that if a person holds a particular religiuos viewpoint and believes in a Higher Being then the Book they follow (Bible/Torah/Koran) is wrong and has always been wrong because it does not condone same sex relationships? They're not being asked to condone it or hey even participate, it's none of their business but if they feel that strongly about it they should choose to abstain since it has no bearing on their own lives. Then write to a NC newspaper expressing your grievance. My previous post explained why the American Constitution is what it is. All points of view are valid in a democracy. In the USA:(Which North Carolina is part of) 1. Constitutionally, marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman- and the constitution is the highest law in the land. The constitution has been amended many times in the past. 2. Marriage is a ritual that's rooted to the religion. No, it is not. Opposition to same sex marriage however is. Don't you think it a bit strange that the religious viewpoints are used to pass laws in a secular state? 3. The US was found on a Christian-Judeo culture. Yet for some reason the founders decided to divorce religion from state affairs. How does being Gay give them any special rights over the rights of others? They have less rights. The can hold whatever viewpoint they like. This does not give them the right to impose their religiously driven viewpoints onto others who do not follow their religion. America is a secular state remember. Nowhere in my previous post did I condemn or vilify same sex marriage I said I don't give a stuff what happens behind closed doors. Why should they have to hide behind closed doors? There is nothing wrong with same sex relationships. Now, if you and your followers.. Secondly; If you chose to live in a particular country or state and certain laws are passed who are you to say they are wrong but you are right? Personally I don't give a stuff what other people do in the privacy of their home but I do give a stuff when these same people insist that because I'm not a follower of their particular religion/lifestyle or sexual preferences I must be a member of a mythical extreme right wing hang-'em-all God squad and I have to allow them to force their viewpoints down my throat. Do you have the monopoly on Truth and Wisdom? I wonder if you've ever heard of the following? We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.Does that mean anything to you? The people therefore have spoken. North Carolina has also the right to pass certain of it's own laws just so long as those laws do not violate the Constitution and there's nothing in the Constitution that says gay marriage/partnerships is protected by the Constitution.
