Jason Bourne
The biggest problem with the minimum wage is that many employers mis-read it as maximum. http://dilbert.com/dyn/str_strip/000000000/00000000/0000000/100000/50000/9000/500/159529/159529.strip.gif I think you have the wrong cartoon... Jeffrey Shaw
Isn't it actually Britains membership of the EEC/EU that has raised the standards of working conditions in this country? Nope; that's what costs us, the taxpayers, gazillions of pounds a year for zilch benefit.

Bigthumb
they have libraries in liverpool???? Its so folk can use computers to sell hub caps on Ebay. The National Minimum wage was brought in by Labour. It was a flagship policy of the 1997 election campaign. It was vehemently opposed by both the Tories and Lib Dems at the time. Was that before or after all the retailers moved their garment manufacturing bases to Sri Lanka.
mindfieldz
It will all kick off when it gets hot. Do you mean the protests will be bigger and more frequent if the weather gets nicer?
mindfieldz
If it did not mean anything, how did you know what it meant? I did a quick edit after I initially posted that I thought it didn't mean anything!
Mecky
The left say it did work. The right tried to play down the walk out and say it didn't work. If it didn't work, why bother to mention it then, if not to try and influence public opinion? If the right have decided to mention it, it obviously had some effect. It's just a poor attempt at discreditation.

Harleyman
Three Libraries closed in Liverpool, payment kiosk at Welsh Assembly also closed for the day. How long can we stand this pressure? When will Cameron realise that he has lost? Whats on the telly? And you were telling me on that other thread?
taxman
Was that before or after all the retailers moved their garment manufacturing bases to Sri Lanka. Why? Do you think it's good to have cheap and shoddy goods made by children in sweatshops in China and India? Would you like it if your job (if you've got one...lol) was taken by someone 6000 miles away? Would you meekly accept it and whinge on a local forum? If that's the Britain you want, low paid, low tech, low skilled, that's fine..just don't complain about people who have managed to negotiate better conditions for themselves.
