Did George Orwell really say that about us?

Where is that quote, I want to read it !!:D

As Chris says, it's "The Road to Wigan Pier" circa 1937. Orwell spent some time in Sheffield in the 30s, then moved on to Barnsley and Wigan.

I am both surprised and shocked that a rampant socialist, such as you pertray yourself to be, has never read that book. Your education was badly neglected ... :D

Happy to widen my challenge of 'Is there a God?' to 'Does adopting Islam liberate women?' http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8868104#post8868104

I'm sure we could have a good, and good-natured debate.

It's all about belief, and whether people who believe are up for a face-to-face discussion. Happy to have a venue that does not serve alcohol if that makes a difference...just suggest!

Both the poor lass in the burka and me, or the person subjected to seeing the poor lass in it.

As for comfort.... Ever tried to help a woman getting a slap of her husband, only to have the woman attack you? Some are beyond a strangers help.

I didn't know there were so many victims out there..it must be all very confusing when your victim becomes your attacker.

The invitation was that people who were prepared to discuss this face-to-face should get together one evening. Or not, as I suspect there would be a shortage of people to defend the premis. Is there anyone who's up for defending the question, 'Does adopting Islam liberate women?'?

It's all gone quiet....
