Jason Bourne
The wealthy should be driven out of every European country as we are better off without them. If we did this as a continent they would soon come crawling back. No, they'd just go to Dubai instead.

Jason Bourne
:hihi:...that place is ready to kick off big style. What, are all the immigrants (er, the ex-pats) gonna riot and tear up the local Footlocker?
puisseguin
French people will not move here. I'm sure some will. I suspect more will move to Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium Luxemburg, Italy and Holland.
JFKvsNixon
The base for fixing a tax rate of 75 percent should be more like two million and over One million or a little over isn't true wealth by any means these days. Leaving an after tax income of 250,000 pounds isn't reasonable at all. The Bahamas or Cayman islands make nice tax shelters and great weather. That's where I would head for anyway. Isn't it a case that you would only get charged the 75% tax rate for any money earned over the €1 million threshold?
epiphany
Will the change of direction lead to fast growth in the economy or will the increased spending lead to a downgrading of the French credit rating and a masssive increase in French repayment interest? Depends a) how they create the money and b) how they spend it. If they can invest it in projects that actually create wealth over the long term then obviously "spending their way out of recession" becomes "growing their way out of recession". And don't be fooled by the name Socialist Party. They are likely only "socialist" as far as socialising the risk of corporate capitalism. The connection to any kind of ground up labour movement is for the most part a romantic antiquation of what has become a mere tool for special interest subsidy and privilege. andygardener
Isn't it a case that you would only get charged the 75% tax rate for any money earned over the €1 million threshold? It is. So for someone who earns say 4 million euros the actual overall rate will be of the order of 70%. Would you pay that? I know i wouldn't and if i was in that position i'd have the cash to move with a click of the fingers. Anyway, as jason says lets see how Mr Hollandes little socialist experiment gets on. puisseguin
The wealthy should be driven out of every European country as we are better off without them. They are nothing but parasites. If we did this as a continent they would soon come crawling back. So a stock broker who currently earns £30 million and pays tax in the UK currently paying around £14 million in income tax and a few more million in VAT and excise duty. His business paying around £100 million in corporation tax. He probably doesn't use the the NHS or send his kids to state schools so he's not exactly getting much in return for his taxes. Just how would the country be better off if he upped sticks and went to live in Monaco?
