Now the Socialists are in power in France will the economy race forward?

You seem to have a major problem telling the difference between an individual and a bank. Individuals are the ones who get on planes and move abroad.

You mentioned the hypothetical stock broker's business way back in post #48

Don't stock brokers also work for banks?

Forgive me if they do, I still use cocoa beans for currency.

Fortunately as we don't have a mental socialist government that's not the issue, it's how much will we take in extra tax from welcoming the wealthy French to Londres.

Very little I'd have thought. They're not coming here to pay UK taxes.

I wouldn't go that far. If they are EU citizens they have freedom to settle almost anywhere in the EU. So let them go.

They won't go of course. It's all hot air. And if they do go others will take their place.

I would go that far. They are scrounging parasites who think that the world owes them a living. We do not need them! Hound them out after taking their money to share out!

The highest-earning 1 per cent of Britons pay almost 30 per cent of all income taxes, according to research.

The 308,000 on the 50p top rate – who earn more than £150,000 – pay £47billion a year to the Treasury.

If they really do pay £47 billion a year in tax, why do the ConDems keep telling us the country is skint and the only way to save it is to slash public services and raise taxes?

Actually that's exactly what they would be doing.

However given all you chaps seem to be convinced that the rich pay no tax lets just formalise it and say everyone who earns over 150K pays no tax at all. It won't make a difference if you chaps are right will it? Then we can hate them with the legitimacy that they actually don't pay tax. Which of you socialist fantasists will sign up to that?

Because that's around the figure we have to pay in debt interest every year due to labours massive borrowing spree. You do see how much better life might have been if Gordon Brown had been tragically killed in a motorbike accident as a teenager?

They will pay some tax if they come over but it would be naive in the extreme to expect they will behave like a British person on PAYE. And nobody is saying that the rich pay no tax.
