Sidecut
Why should our young want to work when we have shysters like Abu Qatada on benefits for another 6 months plus all the free legal aid!. It is fair to say some member of these young peoples family will have paid into the system (granted not all) but this scumbag and others like him and all the false asylum seekers and illegals haven't paid a penny yet they get benefits that are often denied to British citizens. chem1st
Won't happen. Slavery was abolished over 100 years ago. Do you see? Slavery still exists. Many men and women are slaves still, some are forced into it. Some are born into it.
MrSmith
Is there any wonder some of our young don’t want to work. Young man age 18 was unemployed and receiving £56.25 now working and receiving £81 per week, he lives with unemployed parents and they don’t pay rent or council tax, because he now works, he as to pay £35 a week rent to the council and £10 a month council tax. He is now £12 a week worse off than not working. It turned out the council worked it out wrong and should have been charging him £12 rent and £2 a week council tax, so now he's £10 a week better off working than unemployed. I1L2T3
How is being asked to work in exchange for money (in the form of benefits payments) slavery? Even slaves usually get basic shelter, food etc... Exactly what benefits are intended to provide.

Cyclone
No, I don't know. Working in exchange for money is normally called being employed, slavery is having no choice but to work.
Cyclone
Even slaves usually get basic shelter, food etc... Exactly what benefits are intended to provide. The fact that slaves were generally provided with basic shelter and food does not mean that working in exchange for money to then provide those things for yourself is slavery. The key difference being that slaves have no choice and no rights, they are property. In the case of working for money you have the choice to walk away and cease to work for that money, it's more of a mutually acceptable contractual exchange of labour for money really than slavery isn't it. chem1st
What if somebody on benefits refuses to work? Or do forced labour for benefits? More imortantly, does man have access to land resources which allow him to grow enough food to feed himself, build a dwelling and business premesis, extract enough energy resources to power said dwelling, and a business premesis?
