I never really liked the predecessors of the polo its not from a build quality point of view, or speed, or anything like that to me its kinda like a porsche boxster. The only reason you buy a boxster is because you cant quite afford a 911 so you go for the next best option. The polo is the same for me the reason you buy it is because you want a good golf but simply cant afford it but this new one looks "the business" so I think on balance this is a fair choice between the golf or polo not a second best option.
