Age to make a pro footballer?

at what age do you think a boy/man should be aiming to get himself into the first team in the blue square north?

my boy was 17 last november and is the captain of the youth team and played in the reserves for the last 7 games at stalybridge celtic fc

If you're good enough you're old enough, but and it is a big but, some players develop at different rates so if your boy isn't there yet all it means is that he has to train harder and work harder until he's good enough to get noticed and then moved on to the next level.

Depends on the position he plays, GK's and defenders generally break through at later ages because there's more to the 'mental' side of the game. Positioning, reading the game etc that comes with experience.
