Uptowngirl
I wonder if these sales are being monitored for Capital Gains Tax? I don't know. Why not ring the tax office and ask them?

taxman
I don't know. Why not ring the tax office and ask them? That would have been pretty pointless so I emailed one of our Directors instead and they have just responded. Here's part of the reply I got, "We do regularly monitor online trading. Selling a few personal possessions to raise some cash may still be taxable so we’re currently running an e-marketplaces campaign to help people who sell things online to get their tax right. If someone who sells a torch donates the proceeds to charity, CGT may still be chargeable. But if the seller gives the torch to a charity for them to keep or sell themselves, then CGT isn’t due. You may be interested in taking a look at this guidance we’ve just published on our website for anyone who may have sold or is thinking of selling a torch." And here is a link to the guidance he mentioned.
