The Olympic Torch travelling through the Uk ..escorted by a German BMW ? doesnt seem right to me ! Why? the war ended in 1945 and don't tell me you've never owned a VW - there are thousands of them or are you saying we should ban German and Japanese imports. What make is your TV? maybe we shouldn't watch the olympics on Japanese TVs:roll:
quisquose
They can have the torch stalking car, but I hope there's no Germans actually competing in the Olympics. That would be outrageous.
tasha_78_1
The saying "don`t visit the sins of the father upon the child" seems to fit here, the war was a long time ago, what car is escorting the flame doesn`t matter, Germany is taking part in the Oympics too, we`re not banning them because their great grandparents fought in the war! I suspect the OP is peeved that the car is not a British car rather than it being a German one. Perhaps he would be happier if it was a new Mini? PopT
It looks to me like everyone is missing the point. It reads to me that we seem to be parading a foreign car rather than a British car. I doubt if you would see a British car escorting an olympic torch in Germany or in many other Olympic countries when it would be a good opportunity to advertising one of own made cars. This is nothing to do with the war it is a chance to take pride and promote British cars shown on television all over the world. Happy Days! gmarshman
Yes it would be good to show a British car escorting the torch, but we have not got a mass produced British Car to show off. All mass produced car manufacture in the UK is foreign owned , a sad state of affairs. We have now some fantastic models being built in this country previously British owned , Jaguar, Mini, Rolls Royce , Bentley , Aston Martin, alas all foreign owned,Why do we need these companies to be foreign owned? We are working for wages in own car companies , and all profits and business decisions are made over seas. I think the only British owned production car still being made albeit in small numbers is the Morgan Gary Marshman North Wales
