gluedtopc
Not really Sheffield, but near enough, we are thinking of going to Dronfield for a change tomorrow. Heard there are some decent pubs there, what would be the best route to take them all in, starting and finishing at Dronfield Railway Station. I don't know my way round Dronfield, so the more info the better. Cheers.

Stoatwobbler
If you like real ale then Dronfield is actually very worthwhile. You've got the Coach & Horses by Sheffield FC on one side of town. It's the tap pub for a certain brewery by the name of Thornbridge so you know what to expect. In the centre of Dronfield, just by the railway bridge there is the Dronfield Arms, which is a free house with 5 hand pumps. Farmers Blonde & Thwaites Nutty Black always on sale here and I think it was the 1st pub in the UK to have Steigl lager on draught. And going out towards Chesterfield you've got the 3 Tuns, which is my own personal favourite. Spire Brewery pub with 12 handpumps & Bernard Pilsner. Also, the 3 Valleys beer festival is next week! That will be a great way of seeing all the goodies that local pubs (as well as Barlow Brewery) have to offer. http://www.sheffieldcamra.org.uk/3Valleys.htm
gluedtopc
How far from the Railway Station are the Dronfield Arms and the 3 Tuns? Can't make the 3 Valleys, but went to the Roundhouse last Friday-good day out. Thanks for your reply.

The 3 Tuns is about 5 minuites walk along the main road from there past the White Swan. Coach & Horses is in the opposite direction from Dronfield train station and about 7 minuites wak from the station.

Stoatwobbler
Cheers, wobbler, we won't need our hiking boots then? It is a happy co-incidence that the 3 pubs I've mentioned are all at the bottom of the valley I must admit!
Andy C
Just an idea, but if you go on the bus rather than the train the Stagecoach 43 is a good bus and a Stagecoach Sheffield Dayrider ticket (£3.40 bus only or £3.90 bus and tram) includes Dronfield. The 43 bus will drop you off outside the Coach & Horses, Jolly Farmer and Three Tuns. From the Three Tuns its a 5 minute walk to the Dronfield Arms (or catch 44/44A bus). To return to Sheffield the 44/44A bus picks up almost outside the pub or you can walk up to the fire station to get the 43. pub websites: http://www.dronfieldarms.co.uk http://www.spirebrewery.co.uk/threetuns.html http://www.mycoachandhorses.co.uk buses: http://www.stagecoachbus.com/sheffield map of Dronfield town showing bus routes: http://www.derbysbus.info/images/drnfield.pdf
Andy C
just to add if you aren't too fussy about what you drink there is also a bit of a pub crawl taking in the Victoria Inn, Blue Stoops, Green Dragon and White Swan.
